Mental health discussions can be a stigma - but we are here to help.
By: Dr Shobna G. Shashi

Here's something I thought is worth sharing, from years of observation. Perhaps some of you would have experienced this before too.
I have always had acquaintances, who seek my assistance, advice, or resolutions for many matters in their lives. However, once they have been helped, they tend to keep a distance for fear of their private information being revealed to mutual contacts.
What people don’t realise is that, in this profession, confidentiality is key. I have great respect and honour for my profession as a mental health practitioner. The issue is most people are unaware of this due to the stigmatisation of mental health and therapy. Hence, people have always opted to approaching me personally instead of getting proper treatment professionally.
I totally empathise with individuals who are unable to be themselves, share their actual emotions, insecurities, failures, or show their true state of emotions even to their closest confidantes. Though they are hurting inside, they mask a brave front for the fear of being judged or stereotyped at their most vulnerable moment. That’s why it’s so important that they see a third party, especially a professional mental health practitioner. Someone who will not judge, but keep your secrets, help you build a better mental health, and work alongside you in this journey to love and accept yourself for the unique personality you are. Seek help before it’s too late!
